Teach your kids how to care for a special item, but don’t expect them to care for living things (such as pets and plants) all by themselves.
Feel free to be crabby from time to time. Parenting can be stressful.
Develop your child’s creativity. Brainstorm ideas together. Encourage your child to consider different ways of doing things—instead of the first idea that comes along.
Delight in your child’s unique, wonderful personality.
When you’re helping your child learn something, see if you can make a game or a song of it.
Find out which aspects of the holidays your kids enjoy most. Create more holiday traditions that they enjoy.
When kids misbehave, focus on changing the behavior and not blaming your child.
Ask your kids which famous people they admire. Find out why.
Create a shopping list before you go into a store. Explain to your kids that making a list (and sticking with it) helps you budget your money well.
Ask your child how he or she spends time during recess and lunch.
